Stephen Lee Bruner records as Thundercat, an American musician, singer, producer, songwriter and bassist from Los Angeles, California. He first came to prominence as a member of the heavy metal band Suicidal Tendencies before returning to his musical roots in funk, soul, progressive R&B, psychedelia and jazz-fusion. Five solo studio albums have followed, alongside his work with producer Flying Lotus and appearances on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, which brought him a 2016 Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance on "These Walls". It Is What It Is won Best Progressive R&B Album in 2020, and Rolling Stone has ranked him among the greatest bass players of all time.
