About
The Undertones are a rock band formed in Derry, Northern Ireland. Their early material drew on punk rock and new wave, and most of their songs dealt with adolescence, teenage angst and heartbreak rather than the political climate of the Troubles. John Peel played "Teenage Kicks" on BBC Radio 1, the band signed to Sire Records and performed the song on Top of the Pops in October 1978. With Feargal Sharkey singing they released four studio albums, from The Undertones (1979) to The Sin of Pride (1983), before disbanding in 1983. They reformed in 1999 with Paul McLoone on lead vocals, released Get What You Need (2003) and Dig Yourself Deep (2007), and continue to perform live with John O'Neill, Damian O'Neill, Michael Bradley and Billy Doherty.
