The Slackers are an American ska band formed in Manhattan, New York, in 1991. Emerging from the city's early-1990s ska scene, they set themselves apart by leaning toward roots reggae and rocksteady rather than punk, drawing on 1960s Jamaican music alongside soul, dub and jazz. Longtime members include vocalist-keyboardist Vic Ruggiero and saxophonist Dave Hillyard. Across more than three decades they have released a deep catalogue, from the acclaimed Redlight (1997) to Don't Let the Sunlight Fool Ya (2022), which reached number one on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Touring has been central to their livelihood and identity. The band is known for long, varied live sets drawing on a rotating repertoire reported to exceed 200 songs, mixing originals with covers night after night.
