The Prodigy are an English electronic act formed in Braintree, Essex, in 1990 by producer Liam Howlett, who built a sound blending big beat, breakbeat and what he called 'electronic punk'. Their 1997 album The Fat of the Land was their commercial peak, hitting number one in sixteen countries on the strength of singles 'Firestarter' and 'Breathe'. The band won two Brit Awards for Best British Dance Act and has sold roughly 25 million records worldwide. Frontman Keith Flint died in 2019; Howlett and MC Maxim continue the group. Long defined by a ferocious stage presence, The Prodigy remain festival headliners with appearances at events such as Glastonbury and Lollapalooza, and their live show is central to their reputation as a raw, confrontational force.
