About

The Mary Wallopers are an Irish folk group from Dundalk, County Louth, active since 2019 and originally the brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy with Seán McKenna, who announced his departure in March 2025. They built their audience on gigs livestreamed from the Hendys' home during the COVID-19 lockdowns; writing in The Guardian, Dan Hancox said those gigs "immediately captured a mood, and an audience". A self-titled debut came in 2022 and Irish Rock N Roll in 2023, which RTÉ's Alan Corr reviewed as the work of "Irish trad punks". Paddywhackery followed in 2026 with the lead single "Crowns Of England", the line-up now taking in Róisín Barrett on bass, Ken Mooney on drums, Finnian O'Connor on pipes and whistles and Catriona Gribben on accordion. The band are known for their opposition to far-right and anti-immigration politics.
