The Flaming Lips are an American rock band formed in Oklahoma City in 1983 and led throughout by singer Wayne Coyne. Beginning in noisy garage-punk before blossoming into lavish psychedelic and experimental rock, they scored a mainstream breakthrough with 1993's "She Don't Use Jelly." The acclaimed albums The Soft Bulletin (1999) and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002) cemented their reputation, and "Do You Realize??" became a signature song. They have won three Grammy Awards. The Lips are best known live for gloriously excessive spectacle, Coyne rolling over crowds in a giant bubble amid confetti cannons, lasers and costumed dancers, which has made them a festival favourite for decades.
