The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band formed in San Jose, California, in 1970, moving across rock, soft rock and blue-eyed soul over a long career. Built around Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons, and later reshaped by singer-keyboardist Michael McDonald, they became one of the defining radio bands of the 1970s. Their 1978 album Minute by Minute spent five weeks at number one and won a Grammy, while its single 'What a Fool Believes' took Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Their Best of the Doobies compilation was later certified diamond for ten million US sales, and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Having sold more than 40 million records, they remain a beloved live draw.
