The Dickies are an American punk rock band formed in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles in 1977, making them one of the genre's longest-running acts. Built around vocalist Leonard Graves Phillips and guitarist Stan Lee, they pair breakneck punk with bright pop melodies and a cartoonish sense of humour that earned them the nickname "the clown princes of punk." Their 1979 albums The Incredible Shrinking Dickies and Dawn of the Dickies remain influential, and their sped-up cover of "The Banana Splits (Tra La La Song)" gave them a UK Top Ten hit. Acts including Green Day, The Offspring and Bad Religion have cited their influence. Live, the band lean into theatrical props, costumes and puppets, still touring North America, Europe, Australia and the festival circuit.
