The DeadBeats play the alternative 1980s: post-punk energy, moody basslines, haunting melodies and synth-driven nostalgia, assembled into a setlist that blends the gloomy masterpieces with the high-energy new wave. Their reference points are the atmospheric brilliance of The Cure, the driving urgency of Joy Division and the brooding soundtracks of dark smoky clubs, out to the sweat-soaked floor-fillers of Simple Minds, Billy Idol and David Bowie. They are regulars on the café Roux stage and have taken the show to The Loft in Hout Bay.
