About

The Cure are an English band formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in 1976 and led throughout by the unmistakable Robert Smith. Pioneers of gothic rock and post-punk who could pivot to shimmering pop, they built a catalogue that runs from the stark early singles “Boys Don't Cry” and “A Forest” to the widescreen melancholy of Disintegration (1989) and the joyful “Friday I'm in Love”. Smith's smeared lipstick, backcombed hair and quavering voice became one of alternative music's most enduring images, inspiring generations of guitar bands. With more than 30 million records sold and a 2019 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band returned in 2024 with the acclaimed Songs of a Lost World. Live, The Cure are famous for marathon, career-spanning sets.
