The Briefs are an American punk rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2000, trading in fast, snotty, hook-driven songs indebted to late-1970s punk and new wave. The line-up of Steve E. Nix, Daniel J. Travanti, Lance Romance and Chris Brief built a reputation quickly: after early releases the band was reportedly courted by and briefly signed to major label Interscope. Their 2004 single 'Orange Alert' landed as a sharp critique of post-9/11 fear culture, and in 2007 they released a feature-length documentary, The Greatest Story Ever Told, before stepping into a long hiatus. They reunited to tour in 2018–2019 and issued the album Platinum Rats in 2019 through Damaged Goods. Onstage the Briefs remain a rowdy, high-energy throwback to classic punk.
