Spear of Destiny are a British rock band formed in London in 1982 by singer, guitarist and songwriter Kirk Brandon with bassist Stan Stammers. Emerging from the post-punk era, they built a punk-influenced, anthemic style of power rock and notched ten entries on the UK Singles Chart. Their biggest hit, 1987's "Never Take Me Alive," reached the Top 20, while the albums World Service (1985) and Outland (1987) climbed to numbers 11 and 16 respectively. Across a catalogue stretching to fourteen studio albums, later members have included Marco Pirroni and Mark Gemini Thwaite. By the mid-1980s the band's standing rested largely on their concerts, playing sell-out shows and supporting U2 at Wembley Stadium, and they remain a formidable live proposition.
