Slade are an English rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1963, and one of the definitive acts of the glam rock era. Built around the classic line-up of Noddy Holder, Dave Hill, Jim Lea and Don Powell, they specialised in loud, boot-stomping anthems designed for maximum audience participation. Across the early 1970s they racked up 17 consecutive UK top-twenty hits, six of them number ones, including 'Cum on Feel the Noize' and 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now', making them the most successful British singles act of the decade. Their perennial 'Merry Xmas Everybody' has sold over a million copies and still returns to the chart each December. A ferocious live band, Slade revived their fortunes with a triumphant 1980 Reading Festival set.
