About
Siya Makuzeni is a South African trombone player, vocalist, composer, arranger and producer, and the recipient of the 2016 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Jazz. She took up the trombone in East London in 1997 and went from the National Youth Jazz Festival to a career spanning performance, composition, production and arranging in South Africa and internationally. She has collaborated with Themba Mkhize, Khaya Mahlangu, Sibongile Khumalo, Lionel Loueke and Regina Carter, and with the Grammy artists David Murray, Jacky Terrasson and Branford Marsalis. Her work extends beyond jazz performance into theatre and film, including projects with William Kentridge and Phillip Miller.
