Self Esteem is the stage name of Rebecca Lucy Taylor, an English pop artist born on 15 October 1986 in Rotherham. She spent a decade in the folk duo Slow Club before launching her solo project in 2017, moving into a bold, experimental strain of pop. Her second album, Prioritise Pleasure (2021), earned a 2022 Mercury Prize nomination and wide acclaim, and she followed it with A Complicated Woman in 2025. Her honours include the Ivor Novello Visionary Award and an honorary doctorate from the University of Sheffield. Known for ambitious, choreographed staging, she has spoken of her determination to make live shows genuinely entertaining, drawing comparisons to Madonna's theatrical pop for the scale and drama of her performances.
