Roxette are a Swedish pop rock duo formed in Halmstad in 1986 by Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson. They became one of the era's biggest export acts, scoring US number ones with 'The Look', 'Listen to Your Heart', 'Joyride' and 'It Must Have Been Love', the last a hit via the Pretty Woman soundtrack. The 1991 album Joyride sold around eleven million copies worldwide, part of an estimated 75 to 80 million records overall, making them Sweden's biggest act after ABBA. Their Join the Joyride! and Neverending world tours reached millions across dozens of countries. Fredriksson died in 2019; Gessle later revived the name with vocalist Lena Philipsson. Roxette built their live legend on gleaming, hook-driven arena pop.
