Public Enemy

Public Enemy are an American hip-hop group formed in Roosevelt, New York, in 1985 by Chuck D and Flavor Flav, who met at Adelphi University. Backed by production team The Bomb Squad and DJ Terminator X, they fused dense, layered sound with fierce political commentary. Their 1988 album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back became the first hip-hop record voted album of the year in the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop poll, and anthems like “Fight the Power” and “Bring the Noise” reshaped the genre's conscience. Widely cited as one of the most influential groups of their era, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and remain a commanding live force.
