Pilani Bubu

Pilani Bubu is a South African singer-songwriter and storyteller who weaves jazz, folk, soul, RnB and electronic sounds together with poetry and spoken word. She left a corporate job in 2011 to follow music, and has built her catalogue as a sequence of album-length stories: the Folklore series, which re-interprets South African folklore for the next generation and carries her soul version of "Qongqothwane", the Xhosa click song, on Folklore: Chapter 1 in 2022; Lockdown Lovestory, written and recorded in real time during the hard lockdown of March to August 2020; and Konke, made with Afronautiq over two years at Supersonic Studio in Nairobi. She is the founder and curator of the Folklore Community.
