He began playing guitar at four and had professional tuition from seven, later studying Music and Music Education and teaching before turning to full-time performance in 2001. Known for writing and composing his own Afrikaans material, his discography includes Alles wat gejaagd is (2001), Rooikar (2002), Man Op Die Maan (2003), Die Een (2005), Niemand Soos Jy (2008) and Op Die Eerste Een (2016).
