About
Perturbator is the project of French electronic musician James Kent, born in Paris in 1993 and active since 2012. He works in synthwave and its darker offshoots — darksynth, industrial and dark wave — steeped in cyberpunk and horror aesthetics. He reached a wide audience when his tracks featured on the soundtracks to the video games Hotline Miami (2012) and its 2015 sequel, and he has since released a string of full-length albums including 2021's Lustful Sacraments, latterly on Nuclear Blast Records. He also appeared in the 2019 documentary The Rise of the Synths. On stage Perturbator delivers immersive, visually charged sets and has played major festivals such as Rock am Ring, earning a following at the crossover of electronic and heavy-music crowds.
