Periphery are an American progressive metal band formed in Washington, D.C., in 2005 around guitarist and producer Misha Mansoor. The lineup features vocalist Spencer Sotelo, guitarists Jake Bowen and Mark Holcomb, and drummer Matt Halpern. Widely credited among the pioneers of the djent style, they marry polyrhythmic riffing with soaring melody across self-produced records including their 2010 debut, the two-part Juggernaut (2015) and the pointedly titled Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre (2023). Their song "The Price Is Wrong" earned a 2017 Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. Touring steadily since 2008, they have shared stages with Dream Theater, Animals as Leaders and Fear Factory, and are prized live for the technical precision and sheer density of their playing.
