Olivia O'Brien is an American pop and R&B singer-songwriter, born in Thousand Oaks, California, in 1999. She started making music at thirteen after posting a cover on SoundCloud, and broke through in 2016 with her feature on Gnash's 'I Hate U, I Love U', which reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the chart in Australia. Signed initially to Island Records, she released her debut album Was It Even Real? in 2019 alongside EPs and a run of micro-mixtapes, before leaving the label in 2023 and continuing independently through her own Girlhood Records. She has performed on programmes including Late Night with Seth Meyers and Today. Live, O'Brien has headlined her own outings, among them 2020's tour and 2021's The Olivia O'Brien Show, built around her candid, confessional pop.
