Neurosis

Neurosis are an American post-metal band from Oakland, California, formed in 1985 as a crust punk group by the guitarist Scott Kelly, the bassist Dave Edwardson and the drummer Jason Roeder. Steve Von Till replaced Chad Salter on second guitar in 1989, and a keyboardist and a visual artist were added the following year. From Souls at Zero in 1992 they pulled doom metal and industrial music into a hardcore frame and became a principal force in the emergence of post-metal and sludge metal. The line-up settled in 1995 when Noah Landis joined; the same year they formed the experimental group Tribes of Neurot, and in 1999 the label Neurot Recordings.
