Murray Attaway

Murray Attaway is best known as the lead singer and songwriter of Guadalcanal Diary, which made four albums on Elektra Records and became one of the defining bands of ’80s Georgia alternative rock. After years of silence he returned in 2025 with Tense Music Plays, released May 9th on Moon Ray Sound — his first solo record since In Thrall some three decades earlier — written and arranged over two years and recorded almost entirely in his home studio with engineer and producer Mark Williams. “It’s always been my goal to do music that goes somewhere different,” he says, “but it invariably ends up in my yard.” This autumn he plays trio shows with Peter Holsapple and Don Dixon.
