Monique Bingham

Monique Bingham has spent more than two decades moving between jazz, soulful house and expressive songwriting, and her voice is a favourite of producers and DJs including Kerri Chandler, Karizma, Ralf GUM, Jellybean Benitez and Matthias Heilbronn. She began in the mid-1990s as lead vocalist of the acid-jazz ensemble Abstract Truth, whose work found an international audience through Gilles Peterson and the Talkin' Loud movement, and she has recorded "Take Me to My Love" with Ralf GUM and worked with the late Hugh Masekela. Her connection to South Africa runs long: she made her South African debut at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2011 on a bill with Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding and Earth, Wind & Fire, and in 2013 became the first non-South African artist to perform live at the Metro FM Awards.
