About
The Mike Shaw Quartet is led by singer-pianist Mike Shaw, with saxophonist Matt Miller, guitarist Dave Frackenpohl and bassist Chris Riggenbach. Shaw started out in the 1960s as a folksinger at the Vanguard Coffee House in Kansas City and, after graduate school at the University of Miami, toured the Florida coasts and the Midwest before settling in New Orleans, where in the late '70s and early '80s he led Metropolis, the six-piece jazz-funk house band of the Absinthe Bar on Bourbon Street. He moved to Atlanta in the 1980s, played five years in the rotation at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead, and has led the quartet for the last ten. He is also the author of the novel The Musician.
