Maze, also billed as Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, are an American soul band founded by Frankie Beverly in Philadelphia in 1970 under the name Raw Soul. The band moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1971 and was introduced to Marvin Gaye, who took them on the road as one of his opening acts and in 1976 suggested they find a more appealing name; founding member Roame came up with Maze. They signed to Capitol Records that year and released Maze featuring Frankie Beverly in 1977, which produced "Happy Feelin's", "While I'm Alone" and "Lady of Magic". Nine gold albums followed between 1977 and 1993, and the songs the crowds come for include "Joy and Pain", "Before I Let Go" and "We Are One".
