Matilda the Musical has music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly, adapted from Roald Dahl's 1988 novel. Its heroine is Matilda Wormwood, a five-year-old who loves books and can move things with her mind, and who gets the better of both her family and her school before helping her teacher reclaim her own life. The Royal Shakespeare Company gave it a twelve-week trial run at Stratford-upon-Avon over the winter of 2010; it reached the West End's Cambridge Theatre in November 2011 and Broadway in April 2013.
