Marty O'Reilly & the Old Soul Orchestra are an American roots band formed in Santa Cruz, California, in 2012. Singer and guitarist Marty O'Reilly met violinist Chris Lynch while interning as a naturalist at UC Santa Cruz; when a gig required a trio, the two recruited upright bassist Jeff Kissell. Drawing on Delta blues, soul, folk and jazz, the group builds a weathered, atmospheric sound around O'Reilly's raw slide guitar and vocals — he took up blues as a teenager, taught to prize feel over theory. They released their self-titled debut album in 2014 and have toured relentlessly, from San Francisco and New Orleans to London and Seattle, earning a reputation as a compelling live act.
