Life of Agony are an alternative metal band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 1989 by vocalist Keith Caputo, bassist Alan Robert and guitarist Joey Z. Rooted in New York hardcore but drawing on grunge and classic metal, they broke through with 1993's River Runs Red, a concept album later named by Rolling Stone among the greatest metal records of all time. The three founders have anchored the band across decades and further albums including Ugly (1995), Broken Valley (2005) and The Sound of Scars (2019). Known for cathartic, tightly bonded performances, they have toured with Megadeth, Dream Theater, Ozzy Osbourne and Korn, and built a devoted following on the strength of their live shows.
