Kurt Vile is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, born in 1980. A co-founder of The War on Drugs, he left to pursue a solo career, backed since by his band The Violators, and trades in a hazy, unhurried blend of indie rock, folk and psychedelic lo-fi shaped by Neil Young and Tom Petty. His 2011 breakthrough Smoke Ring for My Halo drew wide acclaim, followed by Wakin on a Pretty Daze and B'lieve I'm Goin Down..., whose single 'Pretty Pimpin' topped the Billboard Adult Alternative chart and went gold. In 2017 he released the collaborative Lotta Sea Lice with Courtney Barnett. On stage Vile is known for loose, guitar-drawn sets that stretch his songs into meandering, meditative jams.
