Kristi Steyn

Kristi Steyn is an Afrikaans singer-songwriter who pulls the alternative, pop and indie-soul genres together, and who says the real riches of her work lie in the lyrics — a writing style she traces from Valiant Swart through to Deon Meiring. Stories of love and sorrow, she says, of things of the world and things of Heaven, have to be told; she writes to give them breath, and hopes anyone listening will find a piece of themselves in one. She plays music festivals and venues with a band — Jan-Hendrik Labuschagne on drums, Xander van Zyl on lead guitar, Llewellyn Annandale on bass and Wouter Moller on rhythm guitar — and also performs original Afrikaans cabaret built from poems and comic storytelling.
