Killswitch Engage are an American metalcore band formed in Westfield, Massachusetts, in 1999 from the remnants of earlier hardcore acts Overcast and Aftershock. Fusing New England hardcore with Swedish-style melodic death metal, they became one of the genre's defining and most commercially successful bands. Vocalist Jesse Leach sang on the foundational Alive or Just Breathing (2002), then returned in 2012 after a decade fronted by Howard Jones. The gold-certified The End of Heartache (2004) and platinum As Daylight Dies (2006) carried them into the mainstream, and they have earned three Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance. Built around guitarists Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel and bassist Mike D'Antonio, Killswitch Engage are relentless festival headliners, named Best Live Band at the 2014 Metal Hammer Golden Gods.
