Khaya Mahlangu is a saxophonist and composer, born in Soweto and raised during the liberation struggle, with more than five decades in jazz behind him. His playing has carried him from intimate South African jazz clubs to major festivals across the USA, Europe, Asia and Africa. As a composer he brings traditional African rhythms together with contemporary jazz, out of a stated commitment to preserving the essence of African music while continuing to explore its possibilities. He is a committed mentor, and regularly shares a stage with emerging musicians to carry the jazz tradition forward.
