Joshua Michael Garrels, born on 25 September 1980, is an American singer-songwriter, producer and composer from South Bend, Indiana, whose writing sets traditional folk music against a untraditional handling of Christian themes. He co-founded Small Voice Records in 2005 and released Over Oceans, Jacaranda, Lost Animals and Home through it. His sixth album, Love & War & The Sea in Between, came out in June 2011; Christianity Today called it "prophetic, incisive, achingly human, and longingly spiritual" and made it their album of the year. In 2012 he travelled to Mayne Island with the collective Mason Jar Music to film the music documentary The Sea in Between.
