About
João Gomes is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Serrita in the state of Pernambuco, born in 2002. He performs forró, specifically the accordion-driven piseiro style rooted in the region's cowboy culture. His 2021 debut album Eu tenho a senha announced him nationally, and its single 'Meu Pedaço de Pecado' became one of the most-streamed songs among Brazilian Spotify users that year, reaching the platform's Global Top 50. The album climbed to number 40 on the Billboard Global 200, and in 2025 he won the Latin Grammy for Best Portuguese Language Roots Album for Dominguinho. He has played Rock in Rio and launched NPR's Tiny Desk Brasil series. His first DVD concert, filmed in Recife in 2022, reportedly drew around 150,000 people, underscoring his fast-growing live pull.
