About

Horace Andy, born Horace Keith Hinds in Kingston in 1951, is a Jamaican roots reggae singer and songwriter often described as one of the island's most respected and influential voices. He cut his first single, "This is a Black Man's Country", for producer Phil Pratt in 1967, and after an unsuccessful duo audition at Coxsone Dodd's Studio One he auditioned alone a few days later and was taken on. Dodd renamed him Horace Andy, partly to trade on Bob Andy's popularity and partly to avoid comparisons with his cousin Justin Hinds. "Got To Be Sure" was the result. He is known for "Skylarking", "Angel" and "Five Man Army" with Massive Attack.
