Gian Groen is the stage name of Gideon Hanekom, an Afrikaans singer-songwriter born in the mid-1970s in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In 1999 he began his career as vocalist and songwriter for the rock band Spinnekop, releasing the EP 'Soet September' (2000). His profile as a songwriter grew when Laurika Rauch recorded his song 'Vier Seisoene Kind'; his work has also been recorded by artists such as Theuns Jordaan and Kurt Darren. His solo albums include Met die maan gepla (2004), Lied van die Engele (2006), Welkom in Somersburg (2008) and Stiltetyd. He draws influence from Anton Goosen, Koos Kombuis and Valiant Swart.
