Fokofpolisiekar is one of the most influential bands in South African music history. Formed in Bellville in 2003 and fronted by Francois van Coke — alongside Hunter Kennedy, Johnny de Ridder, Wynand Myburgh and Jaco 'Snake' Venter — the Afrikaans punk-rock band detonated the conservative Afrikaans music establishment with raw, rebellious songs that gave a generation a new voice. Early releases like the EP 'Lugsteuring' became cultural landmarks, and the band's confrontational lyrics sparked national controversy while inspiring a whole Afrikaans alternative scene. Though members went on to major projects (Van Coke Kartel, aKING, Die Heuwels Fantasties), Fokofpolisiekar remains a revered live act whose reunion shows draw huge, devoted crowds.
