About
Electric Wizard are an English doom and stoner metal band from Dorset, formed in 1988 under the name Lord of Putrefaction and renamed in 1993 after two Black Sabbath songs, Electric Funeral and The Wizard. Jus Oborn, who started the band, sings and plays guitar; Liz Buckingham joined on second guitar in 2003, and the current line-up is completed by Simon Poole and Haz Wheaton. Of their nine studio albums, Come My Fanatics… (1997) and Dopethrone (2000) are considered genre landmarks, and the lyrics dwell on the occult, witchcraft, H. P. Lovecraft, horror films and cannabis. The 2024 live album Black Magic Rituals & Perversions Vol. 1 was cut live to tape, with Oborn wanting it "as raw as possible".
