Ed Kuepper is a German-born Australian guitarist, singer and songwriter, born in Bremen in 1955 and raised in Brisbane after his family emigrated. He co-founded the pioneering punk band The Saints in 1973, whose debut single "(I'm) Stranded" became an early landmark of the genre, before forming the jazzier, more experimental post-punk group Laughing Clowns. His solo career peaked commercially with 1991's Honey Steel's Gold, which reached No. 28 on the ARIA chart, and he won ARIA Awards for Best Independent Release in 1993 and 1994. Since 2009 he has toured as a guitarist with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Across five decades he has kept an unusually prolific pace, and his restless, ever-shifting live shows with various backing bands remain a fixture of Australian music.
