Ebow is the stage name of Ebru Düzgün, a German rapper, artist and actress born in Munich in 1990. Her grandparents came to Germany as guest workers and her mother followed them at seventeen; Ebow grew up with her mother and grandmother in Munich's Westend district, in a Kurdish Alevi family whose politics were close at hand — her mother chaired the local Alevi community. She studied architecture, taking her bachelor's degree at the Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften München, then moved to Vienna in 2015 for a master's at the TU Wien. She lives between Vienna and Berlin, and her lyrics work over love, grief, empowerment, anger, discrimination and questions of identity.
