Donald Lawrence is an American gospel songwriter, producer, composer and choir director, born in Gastonia, North Carolina, in 1961 and trained in music at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. He began in the mid-1980s working with artists including Stephanie Mills and served as a vocal coach for R&B group En Vogue, before recording a series of albums with his ensemble The Tri-City Singers from 1991. Founder of the Quiet Water Entertainment label, he has collaborated with Kirk Franklin, Karen Clark Sheard, Donnie McClurkin and Mary J. Blige. His shelf includes a Grammy Award from sixteen nominations, ten Stellar Awards and two Dove Awards. Known for elaborate, choir-driven concert productions such as his 2006 "Finale" shows, Lawrence remains one of contemporary gospel's most ambitious live stagers.
