Devin the Dude is an American rapper, songwriter and producer, born Devin Copeland in Pontiac, Michigan, in 1969 and long based in Houston, Texas. A pioneer of so-called stoner rap within Southern hip-hop, he is admired for laid-back, conversational storytelling laced with understated humour. After early work with the Odd Squad and the Coughee Brothaz, he launched his solo career with The Dude in 1998, following it with Just Tryin' ta Live and Waitin' to Inhale. His easy rapport with peers has drawn collaborations with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, UGK and Tech N9ne, and he remains a cult favourite. Still touring regularly across the United States and beyond, Devin the Dude has built his reputation as a durable, well-loved live performer.
