Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 1976 and one of the definitive acts of the 1980s. Marrying hard-rock muscle to gleaming melodic hooks, they broke through with Pyromania (1983) and then Hysteria (1987), a diamond-certified blockbuster that has sold well over 15 million copies. With more than 100 million records sold worldwide, they sit among a tiny handful of rock bands with two original studio albums certified Diamond in the US. Their story also carries one of rock's great comebacks: drummer Rick Allen returned to the band after losing an arm in a 1984 crash, playing a custom electronic kit. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019, Def Leppard remain a stadium-filling live draw.
