Deer Tick are an American alternative rock-folk band from Providence, Rhode Island: singer-songwriter John J. McCauley, guitarist Ian O'Neil, bassist Christopher Ryan and drummer Dennis Ryan. Rock with folk, blues and country in it — though they actively rebel against the country tag, McCauley's line being that they are proud not to sing with a twang. The live set is full of cover versions, from the Replacements and John Prine to the Beastie Boys and Warren Zevon, and they have played whole sets as Deervana, including one in September 2013 marking the 20th anniversary of In Utero. The name came from a tick McCauley found on his scalp while hiking near Bloomington, Indiana in 2005.
