About
Dean Owens is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Leith, Edinburgh, working in a roots, folk and alt-country vein often described as a Scottish-Americana blend. He first surfaced in the band Smile, whose single "Obvious" reached the Scottish top 20 in 1992, then co-founded the "Celtabilly" outfit The Felsons, touring in support of The Mavericks. Going solo in 2001, he has released eleven studio albums, many recorded in the US with Nashville producer Neilson Hubbard, and returns repeatedly to his hometown in songs like "Man From Leith." His "Southern Wind," co-written with Will Kimbrough, won UK Song of the Year at the 2019 UK Americana Awards, and he was voted Best UK Act in the Americana UK Readers' Poll for three straight years. Owens remains a warm, storytelling presence on the transatlantic Americana touring circuit.
