David Gray is an English singer-songwriter, born in Sale, Cheshire, in 1968, who began recording in 1992. His fourth album, White Ladder (1998), fused acoustic folk with subtle electronics and became a slow-burning phenomenon — among the UK's best-selling albums of the 2000s — carried by the hits 'Babylon', 'This Year's Love' and 'Please Forgive Me'. He has since reached the US Top 20 with five consecutive albums, from A New Day at Midnight (2002) to Skellig (2021). Gray has earned four BRIT Award nominations, a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and multiple Ivor Novello Awards, including one for 'Babylon'. A dependable draw worldwide, he continues to tour internationally, often marking his albums' anniversaries on the road.
