About
David Finck is an American jazz bassist who plays both bass guitar and double bass. Born in Rochester, New York in 1958 while his father was a graduate student there, he was raised in Philadelphia, studied under Sam Goradetzer and Michael Shahan of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 1980. He played with Woody Herman for two years before moving to New York, where in the 1980s he worked with Joe Williams, Mel Lewis, Al Cohn, Rosemary Clooney, Tom Harrell, Phil Woods and Clark Terry. He accompanied André Previn on the 1998 Deutsche Grammophon album We Got Rhythm: A Gershwin Songbook. His first album as leader, Future Day, followed in 2008.
