About
Dave Pietro is an American saxophonist, woodwind player, bandleader, composer and educator, born in 1964 and a native of Southboro, Massachusetts. He has been on the New York music scene since 1987, and from 1994 to 2003 played lead alto and recorded six albums with the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra. He has toured or recorded with the bands of Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Maria Schneider and the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and performed with Ray Charles, Rosemary Clooney, Harry Connick Jr. and Chaka Khan among others. He also studies East Indian music. Six albums carry him as leader, with players including Dave Holland, Kenny Werner and Brian Blade.
